In EMEA, Rakuten is contributing to the achievement of some of the main Sustainable Development Goals. These are a set of universal goals adopted by the United Nations with the aim of creating a sustainable world by 2030.

Rakuten are committed to this urgent challenge. We’re reducing the negative impacts of our business activities, as well as engaging with stakeholders to reduce societal emission of greenhouse gases.
In 2019, Rakuten Group Inc joined RE100 - (Renewable Electricity 100%), an international initiative bringing together the world’s most influential businesses to commit to 100% renewable electricity, our target was to source 100% renewable electricity by 2023. In 2022, Rakuten joined the UN Global Compact – a global framework for achieving sustainable growth. It encourages corporations to act as positive forces in society by demonstrating responsibility and creative leadership.
We’re committed for the long-term, but we’re already achieving success.
In 2022, we were recognised for our strong ESG practices for the fourth year running. Rakuten was selected as a constituent of the FTSE4Good Index Series published by FTSE Russell, an investment index calculator owned by the London Stock Exchange.
In 2021, Rakuten was selected for the second time as a constituent of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index – a list of companies that excel in long-term sustainability strategies and practices.
In 2021, we achieved an ‘A-’ rating in the Climate Change survey conducted by the global environmental non-profit organization CDP, who are widely recognized as the global standard for climate-related information disclosure by businesses.
